Madhabendu Hensh (b. 1987), a visual content creator (doesn’t prefer to call himself an artist), hailing from a lower caste, lower middle-class family in Bankura, a small town in West Bengal is about to hit mid-life crisis with zero achievement in his bio.He believes that an artist writing his/her/their own bio is the lowest form of what capitalism has done to our society. He is notorious for his harsh sarcasm in his peer group and thus nobody likes him.For more than one decade he has unwillingly photographed weddings in privileged upper class upper caste urban families because who else is going to pay the bills. He has also documented weddings in non-glamourous rustic environments, festivals and daily lives but those photographs didn’t give him a penny other than some social media followers.After researching on how to be included in elite photography circle for years he decided to join a one-year diploma course in documentary photography in Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math at the age of thirty-six and as a challenge given to himself whether he can or cannot photograph like the so-called elite class (low saturation, low contrast, greenish you know what I mean) he stood first in the merit list at the end of the course.Since his family doesn’t belong to Bangladesh or Sundarbans he decided not to work on popular issues like partition or sinking island rather he decided to work for his own community.
